Makrofol® Polycarbonate Films

Makrofol(R)Makrofol® is the brand name for our thermoplastic polycarbonate films. Their particular strengths include high heat resistance, impressive toughness and elasticity over a wide temperature range, good stiffness, excellent electrical insulation properties, as well as abrasion, weathering and chemical resistance. Makrofol® films can be formed either hot or cold and enable top-quality printing with standard inks using screen or digital printing, for example. Transparent, translucent and opaque films are available.

Makrofol® films often can be used in more applications than might be supposed, given the properties of the plastics on which they are based. We provide them with a wide variety of useful extra features and functions by structuring the surface, incorporating additives, applying a coating, etc. Typical additional properties include high scratch resistance, excellent UV resistance and special light diffusion properties.

Product groups for the various key applications of Makrofol® polycarbonate film have been developed. These groups include: DE (Design Extrusion); UV (Ultra-Violet resistant); FR (Flame Retardant); SR (Scratch Resistant); HS (Standard Hardcoat); HF (Formable Hardcoat); ID (Identification/Security); BL (Light Diffusing); LT (Light Scattering); and LM (Light Management).

Detailed information on all grades of Makrofol® polycarbonate film – for example thermal, electrical and mechanical properties and the film thicknesses available – can be found in the data sheets or in our product brochure.

Impact Resistant with Excellent Print Registration

Thirty times stronger than acrylic, Makrofol® polycarbonate film is easily formed and much more dimensionally stable than polyester. Lower stress levels allow for tighter registration of printed graphics and formed parts can withstand heat, steam, and radiation sterilization.

Choice of Thicknesses, Textures, Grades, and Gloss

Makrofol® polycarbonate film is offered in transparent, translucent, opaque, and metallic surface textures, custom colors, and mar-resistant grades, as well as grades for laser printing. Makrofol® enables film insert molding with excellent light-diffusing characteristics, improved UV protection, superior chemical resistance, and flame retardant properties.

Ideal for a Wide Range of Applications

Makrofol® polycarbonate films are extremely versatile and used in a broad range of applications, such as instrument panels, trade show displays, membrane switches, control panels, and decals. Markets served include automotive, appliance, security and smart cards, medical, nameplate and labels, packaging, point of purchase displays and other signage, telecommunications, and more.
